LitFest Pasadena Noir at the Bar event

LitFest Pasadena is this weekend! It’s a great event filled with all kinds of literary happenings around Pasadena. I’ll be participating at the Noir at the Bar on Saturday night from 7:30 to 8:30 at The Stand. Looking forward to hearing some great readings and seeing folks I haven’t seen in a while! Hosted by Eric Beetner and S.W. Lauden of course. Hope to see you there!

Off the Cuff with Dietrich Kalteis

Vancouver crime fiction author Dietrich Kalteis hosts me over at his blog Off the Cuff today. He’s the talented author of Triggerfish, House of Blazes, and Zero Avenue. We were both in Short Stack Books’ 80’s anthology Fast Women and Neon Lights.  I first met him at a Noir at the Bar here in L.A. a couple years ago and enjoyed meeting a fellow Canadian (I was born in Vancouver and most of my mom’s family lives there). Plus he’s a super cool dude.

Noir at the Bar – LA versus Seattle!

I’m excited to team up with my fellow crime fiction Angelenos to do battle against the Emerald City scribes. It’s on, baby! It’s all happening this Saturday, August 5th at the Hotel Sorrento in downtown Seattle in the Dunbar Room. Will “the Thrill” Viharo is our esteemed host / referee.

Hope to see you there!

WriterTypes podcast

This is a great podcast hosted by the multi-talented crime fiction authors Eric Beetner and S.W. Lauden. I listened to the first two episodes and was blown away. Interviews with Megan Abbott, Reed Farrel Coleman, Joe Lansdale, Lou Berney, and Steph Post to name only a few, plus short stories, and reviews by Dan and Kate Malmon.

I was stoked to find out I’d be included in Episode 3 which had outtakes from Noir at the Bar on March 5. Travis Richardson and I read from his short story “Stranger in a Bar” which is included in the inaugural issue of SWITCHBLADE magazine. I read the part of the wannabe stripper whore, of course.

AND I was delightfully surprised to hear Kate Malmon sing FINN’s praises. That made my day!

Check out the podcast here and if you haven’t heard the first two, you need to catch up already.

NOIR AT THE BAR AFTER DARK

Check out this killer lineup for Noir at the Bar After Dark at the Voodoo Lounge in New Orleans. And yes, I’m so excited to be a part of it. It’s going to be a crazy booze-soaked night with plenty of debauchery and crime fiction mayhem because come on, it’s Bouchercon and it’s New Orleans all rolled into one.

Wednesday, September 14th from 9pm until whenever…

BEING AN AUTHOR ACTUALLY REQUIRES TALKING TO PEOPLE

I’ve been invited to guest blog on Do Some Damage by my friend and fellow crime fiction writer (and fellow former SINC/LA board member!) Holly West. I discuss the importance of virtual and face time with readers and fellow authors. The key is to fool everyone into thinking it’s easy, even yourself. Now I actually have fun doing it too.
