THE NIGHT OF THE FLOOD is up today on Do Some Damage

The lovely Marietta Miles posts today on Do Some Damage about the upcoming novel-in-stories I co-edited with E.A. Aymar, The Night of the Flood. Ed and I discuss our stories briefly. It will be out in March with Down & Out Books!

Let’s Talk About Sex

In the words of Salt-N-Pepa, “Let’s talk about sex, baby.” Writing about sex that is.

With all of the talk going on right now about sexual harassment and abuse, Marietta Miles invited me and poet/photographer Susie Henry to talk about sex in crime fiction and whether or not it’s overused.

Take a look here:

Thank you, Marietta, for having me over at Do Some Damage!

Daly Prose blog

I’m up live today on fellow crime fiction author Charles Daly’s blog where I talk about FINN and setting crime fiction stories in the South Bay. We met on Twitter and I’m still amazed at the power of social media. The post looks cool and I love the way he laid it out with the quotes he pulled. Thanks, Charles Daly! And thank you Twitter!

Left Coast Lessons Learned

I blog today about my time at Left Coast Crime – Honolulu Havoc over at Writing Wranglers and Warriors. It was a whirlwind crazy time that I will never forget.

Debut Nominees: Nadine Nettmann, Marla Cooper, and me – love these ladies!

Some Frivolity Once in a While

Today I’m up on Writing Wranglers and Warriors talking about the difficulty of getting back in the swing of things, what with post-holiday blues and the uncertainty of our future as a progressive open-minded society. I find comfort in what some may think is frivolous but hey, if it helps…

Check out Will Viharo’s blog Digital Media Ghost where he suggests what to get for that crime fiction lover in your life. Very nice to see FINN listed among some incredible books and authors.

Happy holidays!

Type M for Murder Guest Post

Today I’m honored to be up on Type M for Murder where I discuss what every writer needs or wants for the holidays. Books on writing! Actually, that’s a lie. At least for me it is.

A fantastic book (so I hear) that I am sadly not reading.

Thank you to Sybil Johnson, fellow former SinC/LA board member and frequent lunch pal, for the opportunity to babble on Type M.

It’s the 1980s! Love it or hate it?

Today, I’m lucky to be a guest poster on Motive Means Opportunity. I discuss the new anthology that I’m thrilled to be a part of FAST WOMEN AND NEON LIGHTS, out now with Short Stack Books. It’s a collection of stories all inspired by the decade of decadence, the 1980s.

I grew up in the 80s so for me, it brings back fond memories. I talk about what I remember the most and what inspired me to write “Besties & Blow,” a story about a young SoCal woman on her quest to see Oingo Boingo at the Greek Theater. There’s plenty of bitchin’ music, back-stabbing, and blow.

Thank you to E. Michael Helms for inviting me and to MMO for having me!

I’m so thrilled that FINN and I are included on this list by Rob Hart, author of the killer Ash McKenna series. I’m in great company with Danny Gardner, S.W. Lauden, and Eryk Pruitt among many others.

The Strand Blog – ten great books by up and coming crime fiction writers

And if you haven’t read Rob’s NEW YORKED or CITY OF ROSE yet, don’t wait another second! SOUTH VILLAGE, the third in the series, is out today.

THE STRAND – Ten Great Books by Up and Coming Crime Fiction Writers

Today I’m up on Writing Wranglers and Warriors where I discuss the appeal of collaborating many art forms. Writers are creative people so many of us paint, play in bands, dance, or design. I’ve been lucky to participate in several readings and book events that partner with live music or film viewings and I think this is such a wonderful idea.

Power to the artist!
